
About Us
FLC Bee Club was brought back to The Fort in the Fall semester of 2024.Our club focuses on educating students about bees and the relationship between pollinators and the local ecosystem. We offer hands-on experience for those interested in learning to beekeep by tending to our hives in our campus apiary. We currently keep a mix of Saskatraz and Italian breeds.
When: Monday, September 29th, at 4:30 PMWhat: Last week, Bee Club went on a nocturnal journey using U.V. lights to identify nighttime pollinators. Join us in the light of day as we go sweep-netting around campus to find some critters that prefer the daytime!Where: Meet up is in the Berndt Hall Lobby (next to the big stained glass windows, close to the bio study lounge). After we meet up, we'll go out around campus together.How to Prepare: Wear sneakers and pants appropriate for walking for a while, and over grass/rocks. When: Monday, October 6th, from 4:30 PM to approximately 6:30 PMWhat: We will be doing a general check-up on our hives to gauge their honey production, the results of our Varroa mite treatment, and make note of what & when we need to start winter prep to protect our bees in the comin season.Where: Our apiary is located in the field of sage just northeast of the Center for Southwest Studies. We will be meeting up at 4:30 PM in the Center for Southwest Studies parking lot, next to the Environmental Center garden (marked on map below).How to Prepare: Let an officer know ahead of time if you are allergic to anything (eg. latex, as we will have gloves for you if you'd like some). Wear long pants and closed toe shoes appropriate for un-paved terrain. If you have not yet signed an activity waiver for the 25-26 academic year, you will need to sign one before going out to the hives. We will have copies available the day of the meeting.

When: Monday, October 20th, at 4:30 PMWhat: In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, we will be collaborating with El Centro on campus to present a candle making workshop open for anyone to attend. Come and make a candle with us!Where: Club del Centro room, downstairs in the Student UnionHow to Prepare: Bring your own candle container if you'd like!

What does this money go to?
Bee Club uses our allocated and fundraised money to provide equipment, activities, and food to our members. From craft-based movie and pizza nights to hands-on beekeeping in our campus apiary to beeswax candle making, our budget goes fast! Making a donation to Bee Club helps us provide adequate materials for everyone interested in saving the bees.How can I donate?
Individuals can donate by clicking the button below and accessing Fort Lewis College's secure donation portal.
First, elect the donation amount you would like to give, and then select 'FLC Bee Club' from the dropdown menu titled 'Student Organizations Fund: Enter Designation'. From there, fill out the rest of the form. You will have the option to enter personal information or remain anonymous. Only the financial allocation board will see your information.How else can I support?
Keep an eye out around campus for period Bee Club fundraiser tabling events! At these events we sell baked goods, candles, lotions, and lip balms made from our very own beeswax.
